Epilepsy Foundation celebrates 45 years with colorful brunch

October 20, 2016 – Sun Sentinel

Don your finest purple hat for a morning of fun to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida.

The “Purple Hat Fashion Brunch” takes place Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, 512 NE Third Ave., Fort Lauderdale.

The event will celebrate the organization’s 45th anniversary. It will include a fashion show featuring models from Katy Pulido International modeling school wearing the latest fashions by local designers such as Maritza Guevara Sanchez and styled by DLMAKE.

There will also be a cocktail reception, live music, mimosas and brunch appetizers.

The event is intended to help raise awareness and funds in benefit of EFOF and local citizens affected by epilepsy.

Esteemed guests and event speakers include Ms. United States 2016 Mee-Ladie Delgado and Mary Wong, president of Office Depot Foundation. Both women are active supporters of EFOF.

“Every day, people are affected by epilepsy in our local communities,” said Mary Gomez, vice president of business development at EFOF. “Through this event, and in honor of our 45-year anniversary, we hope to educate the public about this disorder while raising much-needed funds in support of those we serve. We look forward to seeing everyone wearing their best purple hats and purple attire to help break the stigma associated with epilepsy.”

Epilepsy is a common neurological condition. One in 26 people will be diagnosed with it at some point in their life. The diagnosis is given when a person experiences two or more seizures that cannot be attributed to another cause. It is a disorder more people live with than autism, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy combined.

Tickets to the “Purple Hat Fashion Brunch” are $50. VIP tickets are $100 and include front row fashion show seating, a gift bag, exclusive waiter service and one raffle ticket.
